We’re going to Africa. This trip is part of The Motherland Series, created as a space reserved for Black divers to connect, return, and spend time in a place that holds pieces of our story. My visit to Zanzibar was soul nourishing, and I couldn’t wait to bring you all back with me. We’ll be staying in a lively beach town with luminous, crystal blue water that looks like it’s glowing. Beyond diving, we’ll visit a spice farm, take a Swahili cooking class, and take a dance class with local dancers, then explore the colorful, vibrant streets of Stone Town. But what stayed with me most was the feeling of being embraced, not just as a visitor, but as a sister from across the sea. Let’s go home.

We’re going back to Belize. My first time here, I came to check the Blue Hole off my bucket list, but I was just as enchanted by the other diving and the hidden gems around the island. One minute you’re dropping into the iconic Blue Hole, the next you’re drifting over reefs that are completely alive and full of marine life. San Pedro has this easy, vibrant energy to it, where everything is close, right by the water, and you move through the island by golf cart along the coast. And then there’s Secret Beach, where we get to spend our last day together in shallow, crystal clear water with beach bars, music, and tables set right in the ocean.

Dates: February 24th - March 1st, 2027

Learning to dive is on so many people’s bucket lists, and Belize is one of those places that makes it feel natural, like you’re easing into something you were always meant to do. We’ll begin in the pool, build your confidence, and then take it into the ocean. Clear water, coral all around you, fish moving through like you’re part of their community. You’ll spend the week learning and by the end of it, you’re not just visiting the ocean anymore, you know how to be in it. And then we celebrate it all at Secret Beach, in the water together, music playing, new adventures ahead.

One of my favorite places! My experiences visiting there were nothing short of magical. This trip we’ll spend some time in Phuket doing land activities before we go explore the beautiful underwater landscapes of the Similan Islands on a liveaboard boat. The food is heavenly, the culture is special, the water is beautiful. Come see for yourself!

We’re going to see the Thresher Sharks. Malapascua is one of the only places in the world where divers can reliably see these graceful sharks in the wild, and every morning they rise from the deep to visit a cleaning station just offshore. It’s quiet, surreal, and one of those dives you never forget. We’ll start in Cebu, then make our way north to our beachfront resort on Malapascua, where the days are built around diving, warm tropical water, colorful reefs, and that easy island pace the Philippines does so well. The sharks are the reason we’re going, but the whole experience is what makes the trip special - sunset cruises, beach BBQs, oceanfront dinners, island time, and some of the most beautiful diving in Southeast Asia.
